INFORMATION
Seasonal Flu Vaccinations: FLU DAY 2010
Flu day this year will be Saturday October 9th 2010
If you are deemed clinically at risk or are aged 65+ please ask next time you visit the surgery to find out whether you are eligible for an annual vaccine.
Extended Access: With effect from August we will be opening alternate saturday mornings at each surgery for routine pre-booked appointments. This will be a limited service for those patients unable to access the surgery during the working week. All emergencies should still attend the out of hours GP service operating out of Hinchingbrooke hospital.
Online appointments: It is possible to book routine GP appointments online at www.patient.co.uk. Alconbury patients may also request repeat prescriptions from the dispensary. For further information or to register for this service please ask at reception.
Team changes: We have one GP registrar with us at the moment, Dr Emma Atkinson. We have a new healthcare assistant Fran Jacobs who will be working at both surgeries. We have a new receptionist at Brampton, Mandy Cook. We also have 2 new receptionists at Alconbury, Juliet Bowd and Rita Wood as Jane Parker is retiring from the Surgery at the end of June.
Research: as a practice we have attained 'research ready' accreditation and have agreed to work with the primary care research network and other local bodies to participate in approved clinical research. We are opportunistically seeking consent from those patients who would be willing to participate in research should we sign up to be involved in an appropriate study. We will then contact these patients and share information regarding research opportunities should they arise.
NEW SERVICES: Patients who have previously attended the anti-coagulant clinic at Hinchingbrooke Hospital can now attend Alconbury Surgery on wednesday afternoons for the same service. Brampton patients who require transport and are wishing to attend the clinic can arrange this though our patient group Albram. Please ask at reception for further details.
Afternoon Closures: The following dates are planned as additional afternoon closures for staff training. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Cover is provided by the local Out of Hours GP service based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
Afternoon Closures
The Surgery will be closed from 12.30pm on the following afternoons

National Summary Care Record
What is the Summary Care Record?
The National Summary Care Record (NSCR) is an electronic record of important information about a patient’s health. The summary care record is uploaded from General Practice clinical systems subject to practice agreement and subject to a patient not opting out.
What information is included in the Summary Care Record?
It will initially have information about current medications, allergies and any adverse reactions to medication. Additional information may be added over time.
What is happening in Cambridgeshire?
All Cambridgeshire registered patients over 16 years of age were written to in March to provide more detail on the NSCR. Any patient who has not received information on NSCR can contact NHS Cambridgeshire PALS service who will be able to provide details. PALS, Lockton House, Clarendon Road, Cambridge, CB2 8FH. Freephone: 0800 279 2535 or 01223 725588. pals@cambridgeshire.nhs.uk
What do I do to opt out?
You complete a form available at reception, or write in with your permission for us to code your record accordingly. Parents/legal guardians are able to opt out for their dependants however should a child reach the age of informed consent we would ask that they independently inform us of their decision regarding their medical record and the NSCR.
What is happening at the Practice?
Alconbury & Brampton Surgeries have decided as a Practice to ‘opt-out’ of the initial pilot stage which will incorporate elements of GP patients’ records in the NSCR and is due to be launched across Cambridgeshire during summer 2010. At present it seems that local hospitals are unable to utilise the system and so without their access to the data we felt there would be little benefit to our patients of being involved at this stage.
As a Practice we are keeping the situation under review on a regular basis and will inform you of any future decision we make about joining the scheme.
